The BioLaMer project was represented at the XXI National Congress of the Division of Environmental & Cultural Heritage Chemistry of the Italian Chemical Society, held from 10–13 September 2025 at Palazzo Trecchi, in Cremona, Italy.
Organised under the Italian Chemical Society, the congress brought together leading researchers and professionals to exchange insights on pressing issues in environmental and cultural heritage chemistry. Discussions emphasised the strong interconnection between environmental protection, quality of life, sustainability, and socio-economic development.

Advancing Sustainability Assessment in BioLaMer
As part of the scientific programme, BioLaMer project partner Floriana Coppola from the University of Bologna delivered an oral presentation titled “Simplified Approaches for Assessing the Environmental Sustainability of Bio-based Materials at Early Development Stages.”

Her presentation focused on the application and development of Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) methodologies, addressing one of the key challenges in sustainable innovation: evaluating environmental performance during the early stages of material development.
Floriana illustrated how the BioLaMer project is tackling the environmental assessment of its bio-based coating processes by implementing complementary and simplified evaluation tools. This integrated approach enables more informed decision-making during research and development phases, supporting the design of environmentally responsible solutions from the beginning.
