BioLaMer Project Presented at the Fourth Edition of Trash Talks in Barcelona

BioLaMer project has been presented at the fourth edition of Trash Talks (a public engagement series) organized by TransfoLAB BCN, Barcelona on the 11th April 2024. The talk was delivered by BioLaMer coordinator Dr Sibu Padmanabhan who took the audience on a journey through the BioLaMer innovative concepts and its positive scientific, economic and societal impacts. As part of the talk, the fly larvae biorefinery concepts were briefly discussed for mitigating the food waste problem, and for the production of biopolymers and value-added bioplastics.

The event was inaugurated by Ms. Nada Tozija of TransfoLAB BCN.

The other talks in the Trash Talk series titled “Organic Matters” were given by Damian Arezzo from the project “Woody” and Susana Jurado from “squeeze the orange”. Each talk demonstrated potential of introducing unique approaches in the waste reduction strategies and attaining green solutions.

Damian Arezzo from Woody provided a presentation on the topic “Woody- Sustainable Biocomposites” offering some valuable insights into sustainable biocomposites developed by combining wood components and other biodegradable ingredients.

Susana Jurado from squeeze the orange presented an interesting innovation entitled “From bioplastics to the sustainable fashion”. Her talk on the use of orange peels for the fabrication of fashion apparels such as leather-like jackets highlighted the fusion of creativity, sustainable innovation and environmental concern.

On the summary, the fourth edition of Trash Talks was a good platform to connect with like-minded people, exchange the innovative ideas and forge collaborations for future endeavors.
