BioLaMer’s Innovation at Display – NOVA Science & Innovation Day 2024

BioLaMer project partner, NOVAID, participated in the NOVA Science & Innovation Day 2024 on December 3rd, 2024. This dynamic event brought together leading minds in scientific research and innovation.

Our team members Bruno Costa Marrerios, Monica Carvalheira, Mariana Matos, Diana Araujo, Filomena Freitas and Maria Reis, made a significant impact by presenting the latest advancements and insights from the BioLaMer Project. The event provided a golden opportunity to connect with NOVA University’s vibrant scientific community, fostering meaningful discussions and for dissemination. Through engaging presentations and interactive discussions, our team demonstrated how the BioLaMer Project is driving sustainable research and innovative solutions in the field of biopolymers.

They showcased the few hands-on materials and the samples of innovative PHA developed within the project. Polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHA) are the biodegradable, bio-based polymers, and in our research, it is developed from the food waste through feeding them to larvae. These biopolymers have a diverse application and helps to replace the petroleum-based bioplastics, which in turn can lower the greenhouse gas emissions.

Beyond the scientific and technological discussions, this event facilitated networking with fellow researchers, and students to enhance the project’s impact. The enthusiasm and curiosity from attendees reinforced the importance of our work and motivated us to continue driving sustainable innovation forward.
