On 26th September 2025, partners of the BioLaMer project participated in the European Researchers’ Night, joining thousands of researchers across Europe in bringing science closer to society. Through activities in Lisbon (Portugal), Bologna (Italy), and Dublin (Ireland), the BioLaMer consortium engaged with citizens of all ages to share the project’s vision for sustainable and circular bio-based solutions.
The events provided a valuable opportunity to showcase the project’s research, demonstrate innovative materials, and spark conversations about how science can contribute to a greener and more sustainable future.
Connecting Science and Society through BioLaMer
In Lisbon (Portugal), Mónica Carvalheira from NOVAID engaged visitors at the Museu Nacional de História Natural e da Ciência, presenting the project’s innovative approach to sustainable biopolymer production. Attendees explored samples of black soldier fly larvae (provided by our partner TransfoLab) and various types of PHAs, discovering how circular bio-based solutions can transform waste into valuable materials.

In Bologna (Italy), our partners Serena Righi, Floriana Coppola and Shamraiz Ahmad from the Environmental Management Research Group (University of Bologna) showcased the project’s circularity strategy at National Research Council, in collaboration with the Department of Physics and Astronomy of the University of Bologna. Through posters, outreach materials, demonstrations, interactive games, and real samples, the team created an engaging and educational experience for all visitors. With more than 200 participants of all ages stopped by the stand, especially children and families enjoyed the quiz and memory games, which made complex scientific concepts more accessible and fun. This interactive approach provided valuable opportunity to raise awareness about sustainability assessment and circular solutions for food waste valorisation.

In Dublin (Ireland), Sivakumar Krishnan from Amber centre, Trinity College Dublin presented the BioLaMer project to the public, displaying project samples and discussing how innovative biopolymer technologies contribute to a greener and circular future, while engaging with both the general public and the next generation of researchers.

Together, our partners inspired curiosity, sparked conversations, and demonstrated how EIC Pathfinder Open funded research is advancing sustainable solutions for future. Participation in European Researchers’ Night highlights the project’s commitment not only to scientific excellence but also to public engagement, education, and awareness.
