BioLaMer team member, Roshanak Agharafeie, from NOVAID FCT, Lisbon, Portugal has been honored with the prestigious Best Scientific Poster Award at the recent MagIC Research Center’s Data Research Meetup. This remarkable achievement highlighted the innovative research being carried out within the project, and underscores our ongoing commitment to research in the field of sustainable technology.

The MagIC Research Center recently celebrated a remarkable achievement at their Data Research Meetup, which was held on September 27, 2024. This event at the NOVA Information Management School, brought together over 100 participants, including students, data scientists, professors, and industry professionals, to explore the latest advancements in data science research.
A Breakthrough in BioLaMer’s Project
Roshanak won the best PhD Poster Award for her innovative research on “Deep Hybrid Modeling of a Supercritical CO2 Extraction process,” highlighted the important findings from the model developed for scCO2 extraction process of larvae oils in BioLaMer project. Her presentation and the teams research represent a significant milestone for the project.
Roshanak’s winning poster showcased her work in deep hybrid modeling, emphasizing the importance of collaboration and support from mentors and colleagues. “Success is typically driven by collaboration, teamwork, and support from those kind people around you,” Roshanak shared. She expressed gratitude to her supervisors and colleagues, Dr Rui Oliveira, Dr Jose Pinto, and Dr Jorge M. Mendes, as well as her BioLaMer Project, for their invaluable guidance and support. Roshanak also acknowledged the MagIC Research Center at NOVA IMS.
The Data Research Meetup, backed by the Foundation for Science and Technology, was a day filled with inspiring presentations and discussions. Highlighting the event was a keynote speech by Professor Una-May O’Reilly from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, who discussed Adversarial Intelligence and its impact on cybersecurity and fraud prevention.
