BioLaMer Project at the Society for Risk Analysis Iberian Chapter: Key Insights on Bioplastics

BioLaMer partner COFAC participated in the 5th Annual conference of the Society for Risk Analysis – Iberain Chapter, which was held on 1st and 2nd September, 2024 in Madrid. The conference served as a gathering of leading professionals, and experts from both the industry and academia, all committed to advancing the field of risk analysis, management, and communication.

In this event, BioLaMer researchers Samuel Domingos and Bernardo Cruz, from the HEI-Lab Human Environment Interaction Lab at Universidade Lusofona – Centro Universitario Lisboa, presented the innovative approach under the project. Their poster presentations covered the crucial aspects of bioplastics, which represents the major step towards sustainability and circular economy.

Samuel’s presentation titled “Navigation Risk Factors for Industry and Consumer Acceptance of sustainable Solutions: The Case of Bioplastics,” delved into the various obstacles in producing and commercializing bioplastics. He also highlighted the primary risks faced by industries when transitioning from traditional plastics to bioplastics, emphazing the importance of consumer awareness and acceptance.

Additionally, Bernardo’s poster titled “Perceptions of Bioplastics in Online Communities: Insights from a Sentiment Analysis on Reddit,” explored consumer perceptions of bioplastics through online discussions. He presented insights from sentiment analysis, the results collected using Reddit, highlighting the trends in public opinion about the bioplastics.
